Colonial House, Amherst NH
Soil Foundation Problem:
The owners of this 18 year old 2-story noticed signs of settlement in the basement and upper levels of the home including cracks, shifting in the walls and sticking doors. They also desired to lower the grade beside the house to add a new patio and deck which could cause further instability in the foundation.
Soil investigation revealed the home had been built on soft sands. Measurements indicated a section of the foundation had settled 3 inches and, given the soil conditions, would continue to do so unless it was stabilized.

Solid Earth's Solution:
After inspecting the home, Solid Earth recommended the foundation be underpinned using AB Chance Helical Piers.
Solid Earth excavated to the base of the foundation where the house had settled. Four Helical Piers were installed 28 feet deep into stable soil. A hydraulic jacking system was used to level the house and the foundation was secured to the piers using AB Chance Heavy-duty foundation brackets.
